The 576 BS’s major selling point is its ultra-fast attack time — 20 µS. The 576 BS Ratio buttons allow four different modes of operation: 2:1 Ratio (soft compression); 4:1 ratio (moderate compression); 8:1 ratio (severe compression); 12:1 ratio (mild limiting); 20:1 ratio (hard limiting); S – SLAM, All Buttons In trick mode.
Well this guy blew us away when we first heard it and it has taken over the very place once held by our original 19″ UREI 1176.
First there is the obvious vibe and clarity of this baby (yes, the two can come together at times).
On a more technical note it’s the 2:1 ratio that IGS added, that has so many uses and gives it a totally different perspective compared to its grandaddy.
Obviously you can also use it to slam things but what I find much more intriguing about this guy is it’s ability to just perfectly balance a vocal in the mix, so it never ever disappears and never pops out, which you hardly ever find a setting for on a real 1176 at 4:1 minimum ratio.
Makes me think of the umpteen times I had wished our 1176 had a 2:1 setting.
Now cross my heart, this is a really damn useful add on!!
